She is the daughter of Patrick McGarty and Jennifer McNamara; she has a sister, Camilla Mairead McGarty. Her grandfather is Dan McGarty. Shona was involved in the musical Traffic Lights when she was 6, shortly after she played the Queen of Hearts in the Alice in Wonderland and played the Good Witch in Wizard of Oz. In April 2008, she got her first significant role in television when she joined the cast of the British hit series EastEnders, where she plays Whitney Dean, until now. In July 2012, Shona was suspended from the series for 4 weeks because her behavior annoyed the cast and the production team.
